Casinos have become more and more popular nowadays. However, some cities and even countries, especially the Islamic ones, do not pass laws to set up casinos. This is because its benefits usually come with disadvantages. About benefits, first of all, casinos generates great revenue for cities. The law demands casinos’s owners to pay steep taxes in order to keep their operations. Then the city can use that money to ameliorate the infrastructure, hospitals, schools†¦ and other cummunal utilities. In addition, having a Casino in the city enhances tourism. These days, besides the traditional entertainments, people tend to find another way to relax and to enjoy themselves. Going to casinos is one of the new good choices. Nevertheless, there are just some cities have casinos, so if the people live in no-casinos places want to go there , they have to drive to the city that has one. This intensely improves the tourism of that city. However, everything has its pros and cons. Crimes are usually associated with Casinos. Some people rob others to get the money to spend on casinos. Few may even kill their victim to get what they want. This cause the crime rates of cities increased. Moreover, a few ones who have unstable mental state may get too addicted to gambling. They may spend their money uncontrollably and be brought to ruin. Having a casino in the city can be a double-edged sword. It not only brings benefits but also disadvantages. If we can restrain the bad sides, casinos will be a great profitable element to contribute to our society.

As Sac's products are perceived very positively by customers, is body lotion. In the present market, Square does not have any body cooling lotion. Square only have â€Å"cool† body spray which will keep the body cold with the distinctive and masculine fragrance. Moreover, cool is segmented only for male users. So, there will be huge market for female body cooling lotion. On the other side, another competitor Milliner is doing monopolistic and exclusive business in the body lotion market.Because mostly available body lotion manufactured by Milliner â€Å"Baseline†, Dove† and â€Å"Fair and Lovely-body lotion† in the local market. It has been identified that, few years back ACE has been launched soap under both of the segment which are health soap and beauty soap. But they were unable to capture the maximum market share than other companies in both of the segment. The reason was that, they were incapable to compete with the dominant brand Lug under beauty soap category and with Delete and Lifebuoy under health soap category. Furthermore, they were incapable because of their inconsistency in distribution and lack of product uniqueness. That is why, the company has come up with a new idea and they want to munch a new kind of body cooling lotion which will contain both antiseptic quality and beauty care quality. It) Demographic: Consumer needs and wants change with age. Although every class of people are concerned about their skin but young people are more concerned about their skin and beauty. So sometimes it's very crucial for them to use a comfortable product which can protect their skin, increase moisture, and protect sunburn. Body cooling lotion is the perfect solution for them.Dividing a market in different groups based on sex, has long been common for many products like cosmetics. According to gender it s more important to use separate lotion. Body cooling lotion is not same for the male and female. So according to gender body cooling lotion should be used. Another important factor under demographic is age. Product can also differ according to age. A baby cannot use the same lotion which a young and adult people use. So body cooling lotion can also differ according to age. Another factor is personality and life cycle. According to life cycle body cooling lotion is used for those people who are working class. All day they are staying in outside and to feel fresh with addition skin moisture they need to u se the body cooling lotion. Another thing is personality. Classy people always skin conscious, body conscious and they want to see themselves in fresh look. So body cooling lotion is highly acceptable for them. Ill) Geographic: The elements of defining the relevant geographic market include the nature and characteristics of the concerned products, the existence of entry barriers, consumer preferences, and differences among the market shares of undertakings in the neighboring geographic areas.A company's product can extend their name based on customer preferences. If the customer accepts the body cooling lotion, then they can expand their market worldwide. Under geographical segment the ingredient of the product should be safe, customer should highly prefer body cooling lotion and as a result the exit barrier will be low. ‘v) Behavior factors: social factors, personal factors and psychological factors. Cultural factors are coming from the different components related to culture or cultural environment from which the consumer belongs. According to culture body cooling lotion can be acceptable.White collar people who spend their majority of time in work can have the problem of sweating, dehydration, for that reason body cooling lotion is mandatory. From young to adult, male and female every class of people can use body cooling lotion. And now a days women are also participating to work in outside, so according to the scenario the majority portion of people are working in outside by facing sunburn, sweating problem. Thus body cooling lotion can act as a prominent part. Social factors are among the factors influencing consumer behavior significantly. They fall into three categories: reference groups, family and social roles and status. More generally, reference groups are defined as those that provide to the individual some points of comparison more or less direct about his behavior, lifestyle, desires or habits. If the consumer show positive behavior, interes ted to use the body cooling lotion and after using they are use to with it then it is highly acceptable. The family is maybe the most influencing factor for an individual. It forms an environment of colonization in which an individual will evolve, shape his personality, and acquire values. If the family persons are interested to use this lotion then it is highly acceptable. The position of an individual within his family, his work, his country club, his group of friends, etc. All this can be defined in terms of role and social status. After family friends are interested to use it then it can extend their market. Decisions and buying behavior are obviously also influenced by the characteristics of each consumer. A consumer does not buy the same products or services at 20 or 70 years. His lifestyle, values, environment, activities, hobbies and consumer habits evolve throughout his life.So according to consider those requirements it is a challenge for the body cooling lotion whether it is accepted or not. The purchasing power of an individual will have, of course, a decisive influence on his behavior and archiving decisions based on his income and his capital. As body cooling lotion is affordable so every class of people can buy this product. Motivation and perception are most important. Capital Punishment Should Be Abolished in Malaysia

Capital punishment is a death sentence awarded for capital offences where in the criminal provisions consider such persons as a gross danger or threats to the existence of the society. As the merge of human rights associations, this punishment is strictly opposed for its cruelty and this has been a global debate for some years. In Malaysia, this punishment is proudly held in the law and until today, executions are being held. It is a great shame as all members of the United Nation were already called to Join the moratorium of death penalty (Amnesty International, 2007). Many countries have abandoned capital punishment and Malaysia should do the same as it is inappropriate, cruel and it does not help the society in any ways. It is inappropriate for today as clearly, it is incongruent with what Malaysia is aiming for. The aim is to be a fully developed country and to be one Malaysia has to fulfil all challenges which one of it is to be a fully caring society (Razak, 2010). Putting an end to ones life does not define caring at all. Even though the punishment has been practised in almost every society, many have abandoned the punishment and ore are in favour of abolishing it (Caroline Sculler, 2010). If the policy is as such, then the government is at the same footing as the murderers (Stevenson, 1993). As death penalty is final, those criminals will also be deprived from the opportunity to change and the true causes of crimes will not be figured out Ooseph A. Melusky, 2003). Thus, when Justice is hurried, Justice is buried too. This clearly shows that we have no mercy and for a society that values human rights, Justice and mercy, there should be no death penalty at all (Ragunath Kesavan, 2010). To punish does not mean having to do it cruelly. The world has decides that death penalty is inhuman and degrading punishment which also constitutes a torture (Caroline Sculler, 2010). Inevitably, there are risks in executing innocent people such as cases of drug trafficking involving people who were fooled by so-called Job agencies (The Star Online, 2010). It is very unjust to prosecute innocent lives. What is more, The United Nation disapproves capital punishment as it is contrary to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Malaysias excuse was that, Malaysia is not ne of the signatories of Committees Against Torture (CAT) and International Convention of Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and so, Malaysia is not bound to any of their aims (Eldridge, 2002). Malaysia has shown how barbaric the nation is and the reality of death penalty is that it is hypocritical as lives cannot be traded like commodities. To replace belongings or things is acceptable, but to kill, it is cruel (Stevenson, 1993). What more to grieve is, capital punishment does not deter crimes and it does not help the society. It shows no positive result in decreasing violent crime rates (Caroline Sculler, 2010). Death penalty actually promotes crimes. When our government approves on taking ones life, its a symbolic to vengeance. Thus, victims because a clean break is not that frightening. Having the thought of being locked up in a room for the whole life is scarier. For drug-trafficking offences, there is also no evidence that the punishment helps (Human Rights Watch, 2009). It is not only useless, but it obscures the true causes of crime too. Knowing the causes of crimes is hat matters the most and by executing, this disallows research on them and will consequently blind us forever. Hence, the aim of deterring crime will never be achieved. Common arguments and beliefs of why Malaysia should continue capital punishment are of Justice, deterrent and retribution. On Justice, an execution is said to bring closure to the criminal and closure to the ordeal for the victims family. Of deterrent, capital punishment is taken as a tool to scare potential criminals as it is hoped that they will think twice before breaking the law for fear of losing their lives. And of retribution, the taking of criminals life allows society to show convincingly that certain crimes will not be tolerated. However in reality, if criminals have made up their minds to commit crimes, having the mens rea to do any, the punishments will never be taken in considerations. Plus, it is not the best deterrent tool as there is no exact statistic showing the decrease of crime rate for which the death penalty is mandatory (Ragunath Kesavan, 2010). To continue this law is to show how decadent the nation is. Malaysia has more moral based policies, but still, why is this legal? Australias previous Prime Minister, Hawke, have mentioned capital punishment as barbaric by seeing Malaysias policy. And that was insulting (Eldridge, 2002). Killing in any form victimizes all human kinds. Killing will never solve problems and killing will further brings great destructions. The world has decides that the punishment is cruel and let us stand with others. We pride ourselves for being a caring society and let us show to the world that we are. Capital punishment should be abolished as it proves nothing but the act of barbarism.

Organizational communication strategies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Organizational communication strategies - Essay Example However, this majorly benefits the knowledge driven organizations where a majority of workers advanced in technology. Effective communication determines the efficiency in an organization in terms of production, distribution, and marketing. There are several benefits associated with good or effective organizational communication. These include a good working relationship between the employees and their leaders, improved interactions between the organization and its stakeholders, more customers or clients, and increased organizational returns (Soenen & Moingeon, 2002). The following discourse focuses on the strategies to change elements in my organizational communication. These entail both internal and external elements. Ethics is a very important element in effective organizational communication. The company will conduct a survey on employees’ needs for development in terms of ethics in both internal and external communication. Employee training will be conducted to remind all the employees from the lowest rank to the leaders on the importance of observing ethics in any kind of communication. A company can lose million of clients due to poor or unethical communication. One should respect the other party’s feelings, beliefs, culture, or biases in passing any important information. There are different methods to evaluate the current communication systems to identify relevant shortcomings for rectifications. The company would employ the SERVQUAL (Service quality ) protocol. In this case, I will interview randomly selected departmental leaders and customers on their opinions towards our current communication protocol. The outcome will be used to make adjustments. However, such changes will depend on the financial strength of the organization.Furthermore, I tend to engage specialists from reputable communication firms to conduct an audit on our current communication system and present the report to the management team for implementation (Angenti &Forman , 2002). The heads of the departments would also be expected to have an organizational meeting to discuss the limitations in the organizational communications (Van Riel, 2000). I will lead the rest of the organization’s members on the right procedures to shape the firm’s internal and external communications. Traditional communication methods like memos, e-mails, letters and meetings will still be used as the company seeks means to effect its internal and external communication methods. The project management department will produce a work plan to guide the contracted specialist to oversee the company’s communication adjustments. (Van Riel, 2000). However, the employees will be informed on the relevance or importance of existing communication materials like charts with organizational strategic plans and posters on the notice boards. Some employers have complained of not being informed of important organizational issues like internal meetings, changes in organizat ional regulations and policies, as well as announcements on salaries and benefits (Clampitt, 2005a). the lack of effective external organizational communication has also contributed to low returns. For instance, some distribution channels and marketing may be compromised (Forman & Rindova, 2002). There are some instances where our clients among other external stakeholders have complained of inappropriate communications. There is a specific scenario where one hacked into our websites and social pages and posted misleading information to our clients

Compare and Contrast the Relative Contribution of India and South East Essay

Compare and Contrast the Relative Contribution of India and South East Asia to China's Medical Tradition - Essay Example The above view can be made clear through the following fact: Chinese medical tradition has been divided into two, major, parts: ‘the Confucian school of thought and the Daoist context’ (Elm and Willich 2009, p.77). The differences between these two frameworks have been significant, a problem that influenced the development of the country’s medical tradition. Apart from the local culture and scientific development, the Chinese medical tradition has been influenced by the culture and the trends of the South East region and India. The level at which South East Asia and India affected the Chinese medical tradition is difficult to be precisely identified mostly because the views included in the literature published on this issue lead to different assumptions. In any case, it is clear that South East Asia and India influenced the Chinese medical tradition, a fact reflected in the incorporation of many substances, through India and South Eat Asia, in the country’s medical tradition. The specific issue is set under examination in this paper. Emphasis is given on the ways that various medical substances entered China through India and the South East Asia. Particular reference is made to tobacco and opium, two medical substances that have highly affected the Chinese medical tradition, as verified through the studies developed in this field. 2. China’s medical tradition as influenced by India and South East Asia 2.1 The influence of India and South East Asia on China medical tradition The medical tradition of China has been highly differentiated from those of the West; the country’s medical tradition presents also significant references to the similar frameworks of other countries in the South East region. Reference should be made, for example, to the study of Selin (1997). In accordance with the above researcher, food therapy has been a common element of medical traditions in Europe, India and Near East (Selin 1997, p.676). It is noted that in China, food therapy has been related to ‘the yinyang philosophy and the Five Phases theory’ (Selin 1997, p.676). In this context, the medical history of China has been strongly related to philosophy, a trend, which is not, developed in India and the other South East Asia countries. In accordance with a report published by the World Health Organization in 2003, the Chinese medical system has a history of around 5000 years and it is highly based on the use of plants (Singh 2011); in fact, in China more than 7000 species of plants have been identified; most of these are key elements of the country’s medical system (Singh 2011). In the study of Arnold (2000) reference is made to the contribution of India in the development of medicine and other scientific sectors of China, as also in other regions of the South East Asia. It is explained that due to the long presence of British in India, the country’s technology and scientific knowledge was benefi ted, a fact that also influenced neighboring countries, such as China (Arnold 2000). Leslie (1976) notes that the revival of traditional medical system is highly promoted in China today, a trend, which is not reported in other countries of the Near East and the South East Asia, apart from India. From this point of view, the Chinese medical history can be considered as strongly related

Spiritual assessment is the procedure through which health care providers can recognize the spiritual requirements of patients relating to their psychological health conditions (Hefner, 2008). Therefore this assignment deals in spiritual assessment of a patient with respect t o understanding the religious belief. The objective of the assignment is to recognize how different religion view healing and what are the factors they consider most while receiving significant health care services. In order to undertake the spiritual assessment, I employed the tool of Spirituality Scale. Spirituality Scale is a holistic tool that is intended to evaluate the opinions, perceptions, religious practices and ritual characteristics of patients.

Gender in the Middle East Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Gender in the Middle East - Essay Example This paper shall now examine the concept of patriarchy as it operates within the family and the state. Specifically it will answer the question: how does patriarchy impact on the women, the family, and the state? Examples in relation to Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia will be included in this discussion. First, an overview of the concept of patriarchy will be presented, followed by a discussion on the background of patriarchy in the Middle East. Patriarchy in relation to women and the family in the Middle East shall then be discussed. Patriarchy within the state shall follow such discussion. A conclusion will summarize and provide an overall evaluation of the article. Patriarchy refers to a system wherein the main authority figure is the father in the family, and in the case of social, political, and business organizations, the male leaders1. Within the political context, patriarchy can also refer to the centralized roles held by the ruler of the state over constituents or members. This situation would imply that fathers have full authority over women and children and the women are subordinated to such power2. In the traditional system, this patriarchal application has been seen in the social, legal, and political settings, not just in the Asian culture, but the Western traditional culture as well. Traditionally, leadership is associated with physical strength and males are physiologically built to be stronger than their female counterparts3. Hence, the responsibility of caring for the family and later the state has been burdened on men. The foundations of patriarchy are built on such premise. The Middle East region has traditionally been a patriarchal society. Its larger area, the Mediterranean region has housed three religions, including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam4. At present, Islam is the dominant religion in the Middle East.

Discuss how Death of a Salesman comments on American society and Essay

Discuss how Death of a Salesman comments on American society and values - Essay Example In the story, we see Willy as a desperate man in terms of financial and family relationship success. He is constantly in argument with Biff and is always troubled by his inability to earn more money as compared to his brother Ben. Biff and Happy, at their thirties, are still unable to achieve financial success and are characterized by adolescent behavior. This is in contrast with their cousin, Bernard, who became a well- respected lawyer. Linda is depicted as a sympathetic wife who suppresses her disappointment with their family financial and relationship status. The story culminated in Willy's suicide. The story illustrates how deep-seated is the dream of financial success in American society. The pervading aspiration is to achieve financial success. Willy dreams of making more money like his brother. He still retains his belief that his sons are capable of such success too. However, the story also illustrates how failure to achieve such success can affect the psyche of a person. This is shown by Willy's suicide. His act is the mark of a failed man, but, more importantly, it shows the disparity between his aspirations and his actual achievements. From the story, one can see the implications of the concept of the American dream.

Comparison of Tate Modern and Saatchi Gallery Essay

Comparison of Tate Modern and Saatchi Gallery - Essay Example The essay "Comparison of Tate Modern and Saatchi Gallery" compares two galleries and analyzes success and failure of them. Saatchi Gallery on the other hand, failed mainly due to poor choice of locations and art displays, inadequate architectural design and conversion of former industrial buildings. The Tate Modern gallery was constructed in a building that was formerly a disused power station. The designer of the original Bankside station was Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and it was built between 1947 and 1963. The western half of the structure was built with a chimney in 1952, while the eastern part of the building started operations in 1963. The power station was closed in 1981 as oil prices rose, because it was no longer economical to generate electricity through this method. Tate got an option on the site in 1981, which it exercised in 1994 and during this period, the building continued to remain unoccupied. Tate however, saw the potential in the now redundant Bankside power station; i t offered several advantages such as an enormous building with a large amount of available space, an architecturally superior construction proximity to historical sites such as St. Paul’s Cathedral and the rebuilt Globe theatre. The process of creating Tate Modern started in May 1994, when the Tate gallery in London Announced that it would be creating a huge new gallery for the specific purpose of exhibiting modern international works of art. As Sabbagh points out, the project appeared to be doomed.

Public Administration and business management Research Paper

Public Administration and business management - Research Paper Example They are involved in the business of making policies and rules and regulations through which they manage the private and the public sector. Businesses have to ensure that they abide by the policies set by the public administrators in order to ensure that they do not cross the line and fall in the category of anti-social organizations (Denhardt, 2011, p.51). Business management even involves the facet of managing people but they can only control behavior of those people that are working within the organizations and set policies to govern these individuals (Denhardt, 2009, p.5). Those students who are involved in the study of public management learn about managing the macro level of the common population and those individuals who are enrolled in business management courses are involved in the learning of how to manage people at a micro level. Another reason due to which business management cannot be referred to as public administration is that the rules of business management are obtai ned from the policies and guidelines created by the people who are related to the field of public

Opening remarks. President of ASO Essay Example for Free

Opening remarks. President of ASO Essay Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. First, let me warmly welcome you all to this meeting of the Associated Students Organization (ASO). I hope that my introductory remarks will help to give us all a sense of direction and a common purpose for our work within the guidelines set out in the ASO Charter of July 2005. Let me begin by briefly revisiting last year’s ARO sponsored career day: ï‚ · ï‚ · ï‚ · ï‚ · ï‚ · Over 7500 students attended 550 businesses had booths 15 distinguished speakers ( Steve Jobs, Colin Powell to name a few) All branches of services were represented 45 business development services offering workshops on starting businesses The responses last year were some of the largest we have ever seen even with this weak economy. The goal for this year is to aid our students to get hired before they leave for the day. I would like us to focus on more career planners and workshops to help these students plan for their life long career. When our students graduate, they are competing with a high unemployment rate, thus making securing the job as well as keeping it difficult. Business development can aid our business majors with the consideration of starting their own business and being their own boss, not to mention maybe if they are successful, they can hire others within their communities that need employment. Our challenges are tough, but I believe that we are successful if 80% of our graduates get hired as a result of this career day, we have been a success. Thank You.

Different types of news reporting on Steven Regrave Essay Example for Free

Different types of news reporting on Steven Regrave Essay For my media coursework I will be looking at different types of news reporting on Steven Regrave and his fifth Gold medal win. The papers I will be looking are the observers and The Daily Mirror. I will follow the coverage of the British coxless fours triumph in the rowing event final in Sydney 2000. Also I will be looking at the ways Television and Internet are you used for a good reason at showing the news. I will compare each and find out which is the best resource for the news. Newspapers Tabloid The tabloid newspaper I shall be covering is the Daily Mirror. The Daily mirror is a very simple newspaper to pick up and read. If you walk into a Newsagents today and look around you will recognise this Tabloid newspaper, as it has a big picture covering most of the front page, bright colours and large words. Also normaly the main news story will have a clever pun in the title: Oarsome Foursome which is the same pun I used for the title for my essay. All these pictures, bright colours and large font all catch the eye, which will possibly make you pick up the newspaper. The Daily Mirror always uses catchy clever witty puns, which often make people laugh and grin. These puns attract people to reads the paper as it gives a sort of comic relief from possible grim news. The Daily Mirror uses a lot of subtitles and quotes between large pieces of text, which breaks up large reading which makes the tabloid so easy for quick and simple reading for lets say the average man. What possibly makes the papers easy to read its basic Layout, which contains many pictures of the days news. Sydney 2000 was no different. Many different pictures showed all events particuly English athletes competing especially Steven Redgrave going for his fifth gold medal. Lots of pictures make it easy for the eye. In this tabloid newspaper you can look at the newspaper and you will get the story without having to read. The paper consists of many little sentences which give you a sense of what is happening but makes it a lot easier and quicker to read. The mirror article provided very basic information with short interviews and direct speech, to make up for lack of solid facts. Possibly what makes the daily mirror or any other tabloid newspaper so quick to read is the language used. Language is simple quick and short to read Broadsheet Broadsheet newspapers such as the Observer are, almost the complete opposite of Tabloid newspapers such as the daily mirror. For a start the front main page does not consist of bright colours or large coloured words across the whole page. The first thing noticeable about a front page of a broadsheet is the title every single time is normaly very serious which gives an impression that the story being covered will have immense detail, which makes people who are interested in the story a good idea what to expect. Also there are very few subtitles within the text of the story. This makes the contents flow quickly.

RATIONALE To study the impact of old age problems on psychological well being in Indian context because of different societal values they experience different kinds of psychological problems. Growing numbers of elderly in countries of the developing world presage an increase in those affected by organic, age-related mental diseases such as dementia. A simultaneous rise in the burden of non-organic mental disorders in elderly populations is likely because stressors in many countries are affecting the mental health of the elderly directly and/or indirectly by altering the ability of families to provide care for them. It is believed that in order to improve the conditions of the old aged around the world we need to address the issues of mental health. RESEARCH DESIGN The between groups design is used to conduct the research work. Variables Independent variable –the place of stay of geriatric population Dependent Variable – Mental Health SAMPLE To achieve the objective of the current study a sample of 30 old aged males females in old age homes and 30 old age man females living with family. Their socio demographic details were taken and it was seen that samples were distributed randomly to both the genders. The age group between 60- 80 was taken and it was found that the mean age came out to be 75. It was seen that half of the population belong to the urban area and had their education till 12th standard. The sample belongs to the middle class socio economic status. SAMPLING To achieve the above objective a technique of Purposive sampling is used. Type of the study Quantitative study is being used. Patients having any other psychiatric or neurological disorder RESEARCH TOOLS Mental Health Inventory (MHI; Veit Ware, 1983) The MHI measures general levels of psychological distress and well-being. The MHI consists of 38 items that are scored on a 6-point Likert scale according to the frequency of its occurrence over the past month. The MHI has elicited reliably strong internal consistencies ranging from .83 to .96 (Veit Ware,1983). It is a Self Rated Questionnaire measuring 38 items which describe symptoms or states of mind. Items are rated in terms of frequency or intensity of symptoms or states of mind over the past month. All of the 38 MHI items, except two, are scored on a six- point scale (range 1- 6) Items 9 and 28 are the exception, each scored on a five- point scale (range 1- 5). The MHI may be aggregated into 3 types of summary scores: Emotional †¢ Six subscales – Anxiety, Depression, Loss of Behavioural/ Control, General Positive Affect, Emotional Ties and Life Satisfaction. †¢ Two global scales Psychological Distress and Psychological Well-being. †¢ A global Mental Health Index score Validity and Reliability Mental health inventory has a reported .93 Cronbach alpha rating whereas its abridged version has .82 rating. The test referred to herein have been field tested on large number of people and is a well known test. Further it is pertinent to note that the mental health inventory depicted high correlation rating with MSQLI or Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Inventory. MHI has reported both internal reliability and Test Retest reliability which are highly acceptable. The Internet Movie Database :: The Internet Movie Database

â€Å"The Internet is a communications tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another† (Smith, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back). Society uses the Internet as a way to shout out their opinions about any particular issue. The entertainment industry is commonly scrutinized by these online vocalists; thankfully for their sake, although sometimes it doesn’t seem like it, the Internet audience does provide positive feedback as well. Movies are commonly dissected online; viewers like to explain every little thing that they liked about a particular movie as well as tear a movie limb from limb. The Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com) is one of the most popular sites for such movie critiquing. The site has many features that satisfy the needs of most movie buffs, and because of this site, people can come together and share their opinions of movies as if they were Roger Ebert themselves. It is the complet e experience that one can have on the Internet Movie Database such as the involvement and the amount of information that can be explored (not just read) that make the Internet such a major part of many people’s lives. The Internet Movie Database is a website that allows the user to find a seemingly infinite amount of information. You can type in the name of your favorite actor or actress and find out everything that they have ever done in the movie industry, whether it be acting, producing, writing, special effects, or anything else that you can think of. The site also provides any information available for future projects. Beyond the world of movies, you even get information of the television shows that they may have been a part of and even what video games they may have provided a voice for. Many of the actors and actresses also have a small section that provides trivial information about their lives. These are all some pretty cool features; however, the best parts of this website are the movie rating system and the message boards. The rating system is based on a 1 – 10 scale, and it uses a weighted average. The ratings section also provides charts of ratings for different age groups, sex, and the combination thereof, along with US and non-US citizens, Top 1000 voters, and the staff of imdb.com. The message boards provide lots of commentary about any particular movie, the stars of the film, or any social issue that may be represented in it.

Physics of Baseball :: physics sport sports baseball

Missing Figures Baseball is a fascinating sport that is exceptionally fun to play. This assignment is all about understanding the physics of a few key aspects of this sport. One might ask what physics could have to do with baseball? Like most sports baseball involves physical motion. Baseball encompasses all three planes of motion through throwing, hitting, and fielding. All of the classical laws of mechanics can be applied to understand the physics of this game. Baseball is not a difficult game to comprehend, but it can a very long time to achieve a high level of performance. Usually one starts playing this game at a very young age and the first thing they start out with is throwing. Throwing a baseball involves exploiting all major muscle groups in the body to generate a large torque on the arm that will in turn create a high potential for speed when it is released. Throwing Throwing is a fairly natural activity for a person. Everyone at some point in time has thrown some object at a person. In baseball throwing becomes an art. Throwing a baseball is a relatively easy task, but throwing it accurately and with a high speed is difficult. People who play this sport spend a very long time perfecting their throw. When one throws a baseball properly they are using there entire body to generate a large force to propel the baseball. A general throwing position starts with a person rotated 90 degrees from there target with there throwing arm 180 degrees from the target and parallel to the ground. The person then starts rotating their body back towards their target while there throwing arm starts bending until it is almost 90 degrees to their elbow, while the arm is bending at the elbow the throwing arm is rotating such that the arm rotates back almost 180 degrees from the target. Meanwhile the person is leaping forward with the leg that was initially pointed at the target while there other leg is planted into the ground. The person is bending at their waist and the other arm is rotating into their body. Around the point where the driving leg strikes the ground the throwing arm is rotating foreword at a tremendous angular speed and the person lets go of the ball. At the point where the ball is let go the persons body pulls the planted leg forward and the throwing arm finishes its motion towards the driving leg.

Complex Causality: Climate Change Essay -- multidisciplinary perspecti

Complex events are incidents that challenge pre-existing ideas through not meeting standard expectations or solutions. Equally, due to their ‘complex’ nature they should be able to be analysed from a multidisciplinary perspective. A multidisciplinary perspective is the drawing together of methodologies from different social science disciplines (such as economics, international relations, history and political science) to analyse an event and consequently reach a single conclusion. Overall, the use of a multidisciplinary perspective (in comparison to a singular disciplinary perspective) will provide the fullest and most accurate analysis of complex events, however this can create a trade off with the complexity and time taken to reach a conclusion. Firstly, this advantage will be argued through implying complex events have complex causality that can only truly be seen through a multidisciplinary perspective. Secondly, it can be seen that all social sciences lie on a spec trum with lots of overlap and interdependence between disciplines, and therefore it is an intrinsic feature of the social sciences to view complex events through a multidisciplinary perspective. Finally, it can also be seen that each discipline has respective areas of strength as well as areas of weakness and consequently a multidisciplinary approach allows for the most accurate and broadest analysis of a respective event. This can be shown through examples of complex events such as the current problem posed by Climate Change and the unforeseen end to the Cold War in 1991. However, it is important to keep in mind that while there may be many advantages of using a multidisciplinary perspective to analysis, the ultimate purpose of this analysis is to lead to a fina... ...AEBB275/1989%20for%20posting.pdf] Gaskel, G. Examine the ways in which the relationship between the public and the police is presented in this extract and elsewhere in the play

In Murmuring Judges, the second play in Hare’s trilogy which examines institutions, Hare presents the relationship between the police and the public as one of mutual dislike. Interestingly, Hare never openly shows the public to dislike the lawyers, who act as the antagonist throughout the play due to their uncaring attitude towards client, but it is omnipresent towards the police, who are shown to be more in touch with people. Here, Hare is perhaps consciously suggesting that the people dislike the police as they are the ‘face of justice’ and thus perceived by the public to be the ‘enemy’. Although Hare does present the police to hold some racist and prejudiced views, showing they clearly aren’t perfect, he does largely present the police in both Murmuring Judges and his research book Asking Around as trying to do a hard job in difficult times. From our first introduction to the police, we see they are instantly disliked by the public. In Act 1 Scene 3, the first to involve the police, Keith states â€Å"you’re all bloody bastards† which immediately creates sympathy from the audience for the police. This sympathy is increased throughout the novel, where Hare generally presents the police as good people, an example of which is Sandra, who is shown as trying to enforce justice fairly in a corrupt system. The public dislike for the police is shown to be mutual though, â€Å"I’m not sure I care for the public that much†, which highlights the police frustration at the difficulty of their job, which is shown to be exacerbated by non-cooperative suspects, as shown through Keith’s repetition of â€Å"I’m not saying anything†. This furthers sympathy towards the police, as the public perception and the audience’s perception seem to be very different, as at this point in the play the police are presented as entirely honest. Dislike for the police is also shown later in the play, â€Å"I bloody hate the sodding police†, but here the police are shown to have grown more tired of the public and are more irritated, â€Å"do you have any idea, you stupid arsehole, how bloody boring it is for us? However, the public only further underlying frustration, as the Criminal Evidence Act of 1981 made policing more about paperwork, which created frustration amongst the police as for them it lowered their ability to do their jobs. In Asking Around, Hare states â€Å"[the police] are used to doing a great deal of good for the community and they’re used to having it thrown back in their face†. This could explain the police’s frustration at the public and also their seeming lack of interest in their jobs, as they no longer have the incentive to help those who hate them. Read also Intro to Public Relations Notes The police are shown to become more frustrated as the play progress, although the time period is unknown, could suggest that more and more acts were continually introduced. However, Hare continues to present the police as ‘the good guys’, as he shows Lester to be â€Å"only interested in protecting the public†, which reinforces the idea that police frustration largely stems from the public. Despite the public perception of the police as â€Å"tossers†, the police are wholly presented as the most in touch with people and the most realistic, â€Å"what we’re talking about here is reality†. This is best shown in the juxtaposition of the lawyers and the police’s view of public interest. Whereas Sir Peter believes â€Å"everyone listens to Desert Island Disks†, which the is obviously untrue, as this is a largely middle class radio station and shows the lawyers to be completely out of touch with the public, Lester states â€Å"I’d rather be in bed with Michelle Pfeiffer. † This is a much more relatable statement for the public, as it is likely that there is a larger proportion of people who would rather be in bed with Michelle than there is who listen to Desert Island Disks. Through this direct contrast, Hare shows the lawyers to be dated whereas the police are presented as realistic, and with the same manner and feelings as the public, which can be exemplified by the sarcastic tone from Lester towards the clients, â€Å"go and stand up there next to him, it makes no difference to me†. The extent of the police’s involvement with the public is shown starkly when Barry confronts Irina and asks â€Å"when was the last time anyone was sick on your wig? The mocking tone suggests is frustration at the public and the image of the public vomiting on the police shows them to be obviously more in touch with the public than the lawyers. Contextually, however, the public distrust of the police is understandable, as cases like the Guilford four and the Birmingham Six highlighted police corruption and showed the police to be immoral, as Barry is shown to be here. Perhaps the worst relationships presented between the police and the public are those which highlight the racist and generally prejudiced attitudes of the police at the time. Barry suggests that Gerard is more likely to be guilty as â€Å"he was kind of Irish†, which shows an innate prejudice, as he assumes that his nationality makes him more likely to commit crime. Significantly, Hare presents the public as aware of this racism through Jason, who is black, as he states â€Å"if you go through with this†¦I’m going to get a bobble hat and grow bloody dreadlocks. † Here, it is suggested that the police are inherently racist, as Jason implies that he was arrested simply because he was black, showing he too believes the police are racist. Although here it is a matter of justice, rather than racism, in the focus scene Hare does present the police as prejudiced. Through Lester’s statement, â€Å"I hate immigration†¦and bloody women†, Hare presents the police as prejudiced, which could arguably suggest why they are so disliked by the public as this shows them to be unjust. Just as the public are shown to be aware of racism within the police, sexism is also obvious as Sandra says â€Å"just ask the boys, all women are naggers†. However, I believe this may have been inherent and gone unnoticed by the police, as perfectly summed up in the line â€Å"they don’t know they’re prejudiced†, as the play was written in 1991, when racism and sexism were seen as everyday occurrences. Hare describes the police as â€Å"the people trying to keep their sense of humour in the face of massive contradictions†. This is evident in the relationship between the police and the public, as the police generally use a light tone and humorous phrases, which suggests the police would like to get along with the public, but they make this impossible. This is strengthened by Hare’s presentation of the public, as they are shown to be non-cooperative or â€Å"grovelling†. In contrast, Hare occasionally presents the police as prejudiced and disinterested in their jobs, which undermines the police-public relationship, but it is largely obvious that Hare blames the public for the poor public relations as the police are largely just attempting to do their job in difficult circumstances, which is only worsened by the public perception of them as unjust and prejudiced.

His speech are so power that one of the Judean idolaters, a man named Pelatiah, waterfall down cold (1113)3 Ezekiel must not engender been too sunny with that event, just now he knew he compulsory to listen to the voice of the ecclesiastic speech production unto him. grave imaging 3 Ezekiel 371-14. This is perchance the most well cognise passage in Ezekiel. The wry Bones. In this vision the skipper is as a checker and instructs Ezekiel. Ezekiel is brought to a valley of run modify bones and the sea captain asks him to anticipate of the dry out bones. When he did that, the flesh reappear on these bodies. The noble e xplains the meaning of he vision in verses 11-14. The bones hold unagitated for the whole house of Israel, which had stipulation up any commit of being revive as a nation. They had been buried, as it were, in the external lands to which they had been exiled. But the master would open their sculpt and bring them back to the land. His olfactory property would inculcate the nation, and it would once again life. 4 I give put my ruach within you. What does the formulate mean this time? What ass it mean, moreover consecrate nature? Israels riposte lies beyond clement power, plainly not beyond the power of matinee idol. visiting card the episode of promised event. First, you shall live. preceding the sensible takings nates take place, thither must be a mutation of faith. Second, I give place you in your own land. The natural proceeds result take place. And third, you shall know that I, the shaper, embark on spoken, and I work through with(p) it. In 3 631 Ezekiel shows the smokecelled exiles in sharp contriteness as they with ingest upon the past. Here he shows them helpless in idolatry as they accommodate the power and fast moral propose of matinee idol. 5 Now, in the bulk of Ezekiel, in that respect is not much, if any, knowledge on how Israel answered or how Ezekiel shared these prophecies. However, as mentioned above, he was a constant servant. Everything that he verbalize came forthwith from the master key. How kindle it must boast been to be a fighter of Ezekiel during that time divinity speaking so all the way and so specifically about Israel, His plans for the sinners, the righteous, the enemies, anyone, and how to return to the headmaster beau ideal of Israel. With Ezekiel, divinity did not force Israel to listen, He gave the option and they had to choose. This is a varan that idol does pursue those whom He loves, precisely He also sine qua nons His pile to come to Him out of freedom. The support major(ip) Vision of Ezekiel 40-48. This exsert element has radical detail of the temple and how it should be built. Furthermore, the churchman gives instructions to Ezekiel to tell the Israelites that it is time to reconstruct paragons house. This is a proctor to the Israelites. It would be highly embarrassing to them for them to look at to build their worship place to graven image. But, perfection did not do this for embarrassment, He did this to inspire the tidy sum of Israel that He was still going to be their divinity and that He still urgently treasured to be love and served by them. He chose them for a reason, and He wanted them to know His love like no other. This portion is as a reestablishment of the law and how to live harmonize to the law. In Ezekiel 4310-12 it says, son of man, describe the temple to the concourse of Israel, that they may be guilty of their sins.Let them look the plan, and if they are hangdog of all they put up done, make cognize to them the public figure of the temple-its arrangement, its exit and entrancesits whole excogitate and all its regulations and laws. spell these down before them so that they may be flexure to its digit and follow all its regulations. This is the law of the temple all the adjoin field of operation on covering fire of the move result be most holy, such is the law of the temple. This passage gives an answer of how the noble expects the Israelites to respond to His message of repentance. The idea of make the temple get out draw them to repentance and reveal their sin to them regardless. end-to-end the harbour of Ezekiel, one sees the familiarity that he has with the Lord. He takes Ezekiel by the hand and conservatively explains what He says to Israel, and He reveals His very personal feelings and plans with Ezekiel. How toppingly scary it must afford been for Ezekiel to experience His lovesome idealisation and heraldic bearing for so galore(postnominal) years. It was nineteen years since Ezekiel had seen the vision of the exult of the Lord divergence His temple (1018-22 11 22-24).Now he sees His return, to fill and to consecrate this new expression to be His holy sanctuary. His way was the akin as it had been before by the river Chebar (yet other link which this closing vision has with Ezekiels earlier work) and it prompted the same chemical reaction of fright and adoration. The beatific sharpen is still with Ezekiel and leave uphold to explain and instruct him in the law of the temple, simply at this point in that location is a special forge from the Lord out of the temple, which is virtually a educational activity of consecration. 6In a couple passages above, the generator negotiation about the word ruach being used. This word is pair to the classic word in the New Testament, Pneuma, which is typically used for describing the saintly marrow. This is an highly interest word that the Lord uses. As more stack discover that the consecrate substance is not active agent in the senior Testament, the Lord proves every one of those people wrong. In the prototype of The juiceless Bones Ezekiel prognosticates to the bones, then betokens to the authentic consecrate Spirit to fall out life into those dry bones. He leaveed it to adventure out of obeisance to the Lord and what He told him to prognosticate over and to these dry bones. non only does the augur Spirit speak to him, except He really transports him to different spots. 7 This particular study of Ezekiel has taught me of immortals gist for His nation. Although they energize all sinned greatly against Him, it is His nucleus to have them portion Him again. non as slaves, but having a real relationship with Him. That is why He created human beings to begin with, perfection is a relational idol.As much as I knew this before, I telephone it is faraway too open to strickle that because you may not visually see g od doing and workings things out in your life, that He does not forethought or exist. In Ezekiel, you see that deity uses every part of Himself to draw His people back to Him, almost in an underlying message to say, enthral come back to Me, I just love you so much and I fell you. I miss you Israel, I just want to be with you again, I want you to want Me again. I want you to see what you have done against Me, not so that I give the axe revenge you, but so that in that location bequeath not be anything in the midst of us again and we bum freely commune.Look Ill even give you instructions of how to build the temple and the laws that I have for you to follow. meet divert come back, not because I need you, but because I want you. As God gives this message to His people, through Ezekiel, I call back that Ezekiel also senses this great love for a wayward people. Because Ezekiel finish feel the Lords heart towards Israel, being so fully devote to God, it allows the grow to take meet of Ezekiels heart and reveal incredible love to him. The OT in general and the prophets in particular presuppose and instruct Gods independentty over all creation, over people and nations and the course of history. And nowhere in the sacred scripture are Gods scuttle and control expressed more distinctly and pervasively than in the book of Ezekiel. From the first chapter, which graphically describes the overwhelming onset of the ecclesiastic armorial bearing into Ezekiels world, to the farthermost phrase of Ezekiels vision (the Lord is there) the book sounds and echoes Gods sovereignty. This sovereign God resolute that he would be cognise and acknowledged. nearly 65 occurrences of the clause (or variations) thence they exit know that I am the Lord profess to that divine desire and function (see tick on 67). Overall, chs. 124 teach that God go forth be revealed in the fall of Jerusalem and the expiry of the temple chs. 2532 teach that the nations in l ike manner will know God through his judgments and chs. 3348 promise that God will be cognize through the retort and phantasmal conversion of Israel.Gods hail sovereignty is also seeming(a) in his mobility. He is not curb to the temple in Jerusalem. He push aside respond to his peoples sin by leave his sanctuary in Israel, and he can gracefully support to visit his exiled children in Babylon. God is free to judge, and he is equally free to be gracious. His unadulterated judgments on Israel at resist invent his grace. He allows the total dismemberment of Israels political and unearthly life so that her renew life and his presence with her will be intelligibly seen as a present from the Lord of the universe.Furthermore, as Gods spokesman, Ezekiels son of man stipulation (see visor on 21) testifies to the sovereign God he was licenced to serve. 8 This last tilt is incredible. God consistently refers to Ezekiel as the son of man, it shows that God trusts him and that He had a specific plan for him to serve Him. In practise to my life, I conceive of that the biggest lesson one can fall upon is how to have to the Lord and listen to His voice no result what it is saying.Sometimes He may make no sense and it can be very scary, but just as delivery boy says in privy 1027, My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me When ones heart is devoted to God, he can be sure that the Lord will direct his steps. another(prenominal) important lesson, God really, really, rightfully loves His kids. It does not matter how awful we are, how many times we paseo away view that we can do a disclose vocation at running our life than He can, how many times we break His heart, it is His desire to be with us, even if that means us expiration Him a cardinal times, His love will draw us back a hundred and one times. - 1 rapture Clarke, Clarkes interpretation business organisation Malachi (Nashville Abingdon Pr, 1977), 428 2 Buttrick, Geor ge Arthur.
